The first few lessons we had were on the ground and Sue soon had us working with poles. I could have cried when I realised just how terrified Treasure was of touching one of these monstrosities and what I, in my ignorance must have put her through.

To know their innate needs and to make sure that you meet as many of them as possible
To develop a communication that is built around mutual respect
To keep focussed and in the moment whilst also staying in a playful/light state of mind

I chose this photo because I had been sitting on this box having a cup of tea when Dream appeared and put herself on it. By standing up on this box she could see over the tops of the stables to the fields behind, which she loves to do.

Dream had developed enough trust and confidence to step up onto the box to enjoy the view without having to ask my permission, wait to be asked or having an expectation of a food reward. She did it for her own gain and enjoyment and we happily shared the box together, which is why I love this photo.
